Determination of experiment programs
The Domaine Expérimental La Tapy is part of a network of 48 French regional centers. The centres' national coordination is in the hands of the Technical Centre for Fruit and Vegetables. The Vaucluse is part of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur administrative region, itself part of the BRM, the southest area of production known as "Rhône-Méditerranée". At each of these levels, a commission validates the experimentation programs proposed by the centre. Each centre is specialized in several species, and represents an indispensable link between research progress and development of techniques used by growers.
Programs are discussed during technical commissions, composed of professional representatives (46 growers) and 57 engineers and technicians of Vaucluse, border departments, and national directors for each species or subject. The aim of these programs is to help French growers remain competitive on international markets and notably on the European market.
Four themes are studied concerning cherry and table grape:
  • Study of the plant material best adapted to economic and commercial needs and to conditions of regional agriculture.
  • Optimization of growing conditions providing cost reduction and quality improvement (works in green, spur thinning, harvest organization, trellising, irrigation, etc.).
  • Pest management respecting integrated control and organic farming.
  • Technique improvement of packaging, storage and presentation of products
